Description
This is a complete unit on American History 1890-1940, including World War 1 and the Great Depression in US History. Teach students about the Spanish American War, Panama Canal, WW1, Harlem Renaissance, Women’s Suffrage Movement, Great Depression, and the New Deal! This has been adapted to better support English language learners and special education students in American History classes.
Students will learn about World War 1 and the Great Depression with this editable American History 1890-1940 PowerPoint and guided note packet. Students will write notes and complete map activities in their guided notes packet.

Causes of World War 1 and Significant WW1 Events
A creative World War 1 Project is included with differentiated options to best fit your students’ needs. This WW1 Timeline Research project comes with instructions for chunking and scaffolding so that students are not overwhelmed.
Students will research events from World War 1 such as the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, the sinking of the Lusitania, the Zimmerman telegram, President Wilson’s 14 points, the Treaty of Versailles, and more!
Women’s Suffrage Movement
Students will research specific facts about one of the leaders of the Women’s Suffrage Movement and create a poster about them for American History class. This also makes for a great Women’s History Month project! Students will create a scaffolded research project about Susan B. Anthony, Mary Church Terrell, Ida B. Wells, Sojourner Truth, Alice Paul, & Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
Review US President facts with matching worksheet activities. This activity includes William Howard Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Calvin Coolidge, Theodore Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover, and Warren G. Harding. Students can cut and paste the facts and match them to the correct president, write the answers in the blank, or complete the activities digitally. An extension activity is included- students will write 1-2 sentences to explain what happened during each historical event. An answer key is included!
Includes a straight-forward review of World War 1 that helps all students access grade level content. You can go over one page with students each day as warmup or exit ticket, or review it all before a test. Students will review what are the major alliances, strengths and weaknesses of each alliance, and other WW1 facts.
