Everything You Need to Teach Population Pyramids with My Create a Population Pyramid Project
Teaching population pyramids can be difficult for middle and high school students. They often struggle to understand the concept, and it can be hard for teachers to effectively explain in the classroom. That’s why I created my Create a Population Pyramid Project – so teachers can have an easy way of teaching this important concept! Let’s take a look at all that is included in this project.
Why teach about Population Pyramids?
Population pyramids are a great tool for teaching students about demographics. They provide a clear visual representation of the population of a given country or region. Population pyramids show the age and gender structure of that population. This makes them an excellent way to bring abstract concepts like fertility rates and gender balance to life in the classroom.
Let’s take a look at some tips for teaching with population pyramids.
Population pyramids emphasize how factors, such as birth rates, death rates, and migration, can influence population growth over time. To illustrate population change, you can have students create population pyramids for countries around the world to compare and contrast different populations.
What is Included?
My Create a Population Pyramid Project includes everything you need to teach your middle or high school class about population pyramids. It includes two countries’ population data for students to create population pyramids and answer keys.
This project also comes with a bonus section for students to create their own population and then make the population pyramids. If you want students to have even more practice, they can switch with a peer and complete each others population pyramids for the population data they created.
With this project, you will be able to quickly and easily introduce your students to the concept of population pyramids and help them understand how they are used in geography.
Benefits of My Create a Population Pyramid Project
My Create a Population Pyramid Project is designed to make it easier for teachers to teach their classes about population pyramids. By providing an easy-to-follow structure, this project makes it simple for teachers to get their students engaged.
This exercise will provide a visual representation of age and gender structures within populations over time. Help your students understand how different trends in fertility rate, mortality rate, and migration can alter the shape of a population pyramid. You can have discussions after students complete the project to encourage critical thinking about how these trends may change in the future.
Population pyramid templates are included to so that this is a no-prep project! Just print and go! I’ve also included a digital version via Google Slides.
